DocWagon Campaign

Page history last edited by Veggiesama 16 years, 3 months ago

You've seen metahumanity at its worst: spilling its guts on the sidewalk, wetting its pants in a public drunken stupor, or dying alone in an apartment full of hungry cats. Your job is to help people in need, but the high-stress, understaffed, mandatory-overtime work conditions have stretched your empathy to its limits, especially when each call puts you face to face with a scene of violence, agony, or death.

The rules of engagement have changed. Gone are the days when unarmed ambulances could blaze down the streets to the scene of an accident. Spiraling urban violence, the privatization of police services, and the rise of corporate jurisdictions have combined to end the aegis of neutrality over medical personnel. In much of the world, medics hauling away wounded enemies are as valid a target as the wounded and dying they came for. This holds true for urban settings as much as the modern battlefield.

Laws that once existed to require medical providers to assist anyone in need are, in many cases, void. Medical companies take sides, and they will not treat those who cannot pay or who hold affiliations with rival entities.

With emergency response units becoming valid targets, the corporations running such services have responded by raising the stakes and arming them. EMTs wear body armor and carry sidearms even for routine transports, and High Threat Response teams travel under spirit protection, hack backdoors into traffic grid networks, and count on trained combat specialists as well as paramedics. With a guaranteed "10-minute Response Time or Your Healthcare's On Us!", such services are integral to Gold, Platinum, and Super-Platinum client contracts.

You are a member of DocWagon's High Threat Response (HTR) team. While you enjoy greater skill, privilege, and autonomy than the average paramedic, your responsibilities are a pay-grade higher. Sometimes the situation might call for diplomatic grace, such as a hostage exchange, while other times you may have to extract the customer using any means necessary. As such, the company has high expectations for you. Don't let management down, or you'll soon find that they've taken out a life insurance policy with your name on it.

Character Creation (KarmaGen)

  • Modified Karma System for character creation (Runner Companion 41).
    • You get 900 Karma.
    • Metatypes and metavariants allowed (gnomes, oni, etc.) but nothing goofy (centaur, AI) without GM approval
    • Maximum Karma expenditures:
      • Attributes: 450 + (2 x Metatype BP cost) Karma
      • Positive qualities: 70 Karma
      • Negative qualities: 40 Karma
      • Nuyen: 150 Karma (Max availability 20)
    • You receive (Logic + Intuition) x 4 free Karma for Knowledge/Language skills.
    • You receive Charisma x 3 free Karma for Contacts.
      • Suggestions: Paramedics, nurses, street docs, surgeons, psychiatrists, pharmacists, patients, management, etc.
    • You may Initiate/Submerge up to Grade 3 (no group/ordeal discounts).
    • Spellcasters can purchase up to (Spellcasting x 3) spells, and technomancers can choose up to (Logic x 3) complex forms.
    • Spellcasters/technomancers may start the game with bound spirits/registered sprites by spending Karma (RC42).
    • Programs cannot be pirated, freeware, or open source at the beginning of the game.
    • Cyborg rules.
    • Technomancer changes
    • You may allocate up to 25,000 nuyen (10 Karma) to an Edge Fund.
    • You can save up to 5 Karma.
  • As DocWagon employees, the group gets some free swag:
    • DocWagon SRT Ambulance (Arsenal), modified to include chameleon coating (Arsenal)
    • DocWagon AutoDoc drone (same stats as CrashCart AutoDoc drone in Core book)
    • DocWagon Paramedic skillsoft cluster (Unwired)
    • One DocWagon-licensed commlink per runner (Device Rating 3, loaded with all common use programs at rating 3)
  • As DocWagon employees, the player has the SINNER negative quality (Core book).
    • The character somehow acquired a legal System Identification Number, or SIN (see Identification, Please, p. 266). This means the character's real identity, personal history, biometric data, credit records, medical history, etc. are stored and accessible in numerous databanks. This does not mean the character is required to use that SIN, merely that a legal record of him does exist (and may serve as a detriment some day).
    • The character has a standard SIN and is a bona fide citizen of the DocWagon corporation.
    • This negative quality does not grant bonus Karma points, but also doesn't count against the negative quality maximum.
    • By spending 10 Karma at character creation, this quality can be bought off.
    • You cannot get the Criminal SINNER quality.

Suggested character backgrounds:

  • Elite paramedic promoted to to High Threat Response team.
  • Owes DocWagon for risky surgery or cyber/bioware implants.
  • Ex-Shadowrunner trying to make an honest name for himself.
  • Hotshot racecar driver called by God to drive an ambulance.
  • Mad scientist using DocWagon for their facilities.
  • Elf summoner/face who uses a bazooka for no apparent reason.
  • Internet troll who happens to be a troll IRL.
  • etc.

PACKS http://www.box.net/shared/jxnfdn1rfc

  • PACKS: Pre-generated blah blah character kit system (This was going to be published, but the author's contracts were terminated, so he released it for free)
  • At the end is a PDF is a list of "kits", like Off-the-Shelf Samurai. The kit is a list of various implants, skills, and gear, which you can buy as a package for the listed amount. For instance, the Samurai comes with a bunch of cyberlimbs, exotic weapon skills, and a cyberware sales rep contact.
  • You can use the kits as a base to build your character. They won't save you any nuyen or karma, but they give you a good starting point to quickly build an interesting, powerful character.

Stuff I Want You To Do:

  1. Install Maptool and Java (works on Mac) and bring your laptop to the game
    1. You don't need to do anything else in MapTool except make sure it runs.
    2. MapTool usage will be restricted to initiative, combat maps, and hand-outs. I might use it to roll dice, but you don't have to.
  2. Find an image for your character and post it here (or use TokenTool and make your own token PNG file)
  3. Let me know what kind of character you're making or just use the wiki for your character sheet

Schedule

  • TUESDAY - June 15 @ 5 PM.
  • MONDAY - June 21 @ 5 PM.
  • You can spend karma and nuyen immediately to improve your character. Don't worry about Availability tests, surgery time, training, or whatever.

What do you want the dimensions of the minis to be, Glen? And square or circle? I can make them for whoever wants to give me a pic (like Nick did).

Looks like I'm getting the shaft next week at work again, but I will get off on Monday at 4. That's really the only day I can play.

95% sure that we're playing the DocWagon game at 5 pm, Monday the 21st.

For my game, I'm scheduling it for Friday the 25th, 5 pm. Besides pimping your characters for it, post pics you want for your minis (sorry to clutter your Docwagon page, Glen :3).

I am off Monday, Wednesday, Friday next week, so I can do both of those games.
DocWagon on Monday @ 5 PM.
Billabong's Buccaneers (the official name, btw) on Friday @ 5 PM.

Buck wants to customize his Red Sam armor. Besides all the upgrade costs, what's it going to cost to fit it to his body?

Dimensions don't matter, since MapTool automatically sizes the tokens to fit in a Medium-sized square (which is like 50 pixels at 100% zoom). But you can see more detail if you zoom in, so the higher the pixel count, the better the token looks.

yeah mark, what would it cost to mess with that armor so i could wear mine?

I'm down for a game on Friday too. Luckily, I've got Pharmacy School Orientation that day, which ends at 3. Also, for Mark's game I'd like this to be my mini

Thanks for the minis all (ジムくん、ミニがどこですか?). Change of plans:

Monday: We're playing my game. Get your characters - Buck, Calhoun, Sensho, and Alfonso - ready. Later today I'll post rules for modding the Red Samurai armor later today. Have fun buying stuff.

Friday: Glen's game. So it's Lenin, Hambone, Pot o Bling, and Healbot, if you've somehow forgotten.

Both start times are 5 pm. We aim to end around midnight. Cool?

Aha, 'Billabong's Buccaneers'. Though that brings up, do you have have/want a running team name? All the badasses have one. Someone toss out some ideas. Bonus karma for contributing before Monday!

Upgraded Nashville to Sensor 6.
Bought a crate of performance-enhancing drugs.
Upgraded Nashville with double passenger space, oil slick sprayer, smoke projector, nitrous injection, smuggling compartment, off-road tires.
Red samurai armor upgraded with camouflage, hydraulic jacks, and various other protection
Command program rating 4
Jackalope has chameleon coating too!

Also, Billabong has to go away for a while, but when he gets back he'll be at Initiate Grade 5 and will have many new magic powers, like the ability to survive a 100-ft fall

Unfortunately, due to unforeseen familial obligations I can't make Friday's game. I'll be sure to have Lenin ready by the next time we play, whenever that is. Good luck and have fun.

Game is canceled for tomorrow (Friday). Sorry, guys, but lack of time/motivation forced my hand. Plus today they decided to schedule me to work Friday, so even if I was prepped to play, I still wouldn't be able to. Have a good night.

Also, the CAS Commandos has my vote.

I'm glad that people are liking the C.A.S.Commandoes.
