to be in the mafia in 2072, one must pledge complete and
utter allegiance to the family. if you're in, you can't leave,
and your offspring continue to be within the family.
dante grew up in the moretti family, his father, who fell on
very hard times when dante and his twin sister were born,
turned to the family and joined in an attempt to settle debts
and offer a fitting upbringing for his children.
dante never new specific details of what his father did, most
likely he was ashamed.
as he became older he forcibly became involved in the workings
of the moretti family. initially small jobs such as deliveries
or information dealings.
one day, dante came across a homeless boy named fernando.
Running into each other more as time went by they became
friends.
only a full italian can join the moretti family and have any
real ambitions to progress within the hierarchy of the family.
dante, not knowing of any malicious dealings that took place
within the family, requested that fernando be allowed in
despite his spanish heritage.
they obliged due to the hard work and loyalty shown by himself
and especially his father.
one day at about age 16, dante notices his father relocating
what appeared to be slaves of all metatypes. growing up, dante
was very unfamiliar with anyone that was not a normal human.
he investigated and discovered that the mafia was running
experiments on anyone that had awakened, whether it changed
their metatype, or gave them magic abilities.
dante confronted his father, who, ashamed as he was, explained
how it was necessary to live the life they had become
accustomed to.
furious, dante stopped speaking to his father and moved to
another part of town, however, growing up within the mob, he
could not leave and had to continue doing dirty work for them
despite his opposition. he was assigned to work with a nice
gentleman by the name of roberto denero.
still in touch with fernando and his sister, dante started
moving up in the mafia, and eventually became the right
hand man of a smaller portion of the family that was now
located in the sector of the city in which dante resided.
one day, at about age 22, dante had a bizarre change, he could
log into the matrix without a commlink. he quickly called
upon Adriana and fernando in an attempt to figure out what
happened. it turned out that the same thing had happened
to his sister. they decided to keep it quiet and not let
anyone in the family know.
that night, unknowingly to dante and adriana, fernando
consulted their father with the news of their awakening.
due to the fact that it was dante's fathers job to capture
and study awakened beings for the family in an attempt to
create weapons,make shady deals, steal funds, etc. Dante's
father however, refused to tell anyone else, he did not want
his children to suffer.
fernando, furious of not being able to advance in the family
over the years was even more upset with the disloyalty of
his peers. Thus, fernando went to the head of the family,
Don Aronne, who ordered the capture of dante and adriana, and
the execution of dante's parents for conspiracy against the
moretti family.
due to his loyalty, fernando was given more responsibility in
the family, and a position that was never before held by a
non-native. not too high of a position mind you, but something
still respectable.
the following night, dante and his sister had changed their
mind and decided to talk to their parents again for the first
time in years and tell them what had happened to them.
when they arrived at their parents place, the discovered the
dead corpses of their parents. fernando ran up to investigate,
and just when he reached his parents, he heard a scream from
behind. fernando and 2 other mobsters had grabbed his sister
and knocked her out.
they turned their guns on dante, and fernando explained how
this was necessary for the family and for its best interests, and
how furious he had become over the years for not
progressing in the family at all, even after all his hard work.
While dante barely had to do anything to advance, the
Loyalty and devotion necessary for the moretti family was
something dante could never understand. they opened fire.
dante, shot up and bleeding out, stumbled down an empty
alley, and the last thing he saw before passing out was a
woman.
he awoke several hours later in a daze in a very nice, ethnic
bedroom. as he was trying to remember all that happened, the
asian woman he saw before he lost consciousness the other night
had walked in.
her name was kiyoko and she was an information dealer. dante
explained his situation to her and thanked her for her help.
she pitied him because she too had lost family due to gang
violence and offered to help. she suggested he lay low for a
while and move somewhere far. she said she would send any
information regarding fernando or adriana that she would
aquire to him.
he moved to denver in an attempt to start a new, more fruitful
and honest life. being part of the problem for all those
years, he decieded to help the right side for once. dante
decided to open up a PI firm. despite his new life, he
still scoured the matrix daily for any sign of his sister or
her living persona whom he never had the chance to see.
still in disbelief of what fernando and the family did to him,
dante awaits the day to bring justice to all of them,
especially fernando, and to find his sister whom he still
believes to be alive.
4 years later at the age of 26, dante recieved a call from
kiyoko explaining that enough time had passed and it would
be suitable for him to move back to the rotten apple and
take care of his business. she also planned to meet with
him again in 1 week to explain the current situation.
